Baobabs, river valleys and room to explore.
A landscape with a strong sense of place
Ruaha brings together the Great Ruaha River, rocky country, baobabs and woodland. The contrasts give each drive a different character: open views one moment, a quiet riverbank the next. Choose it for a substantial southern safari chapter, with time to appreciate the setting between wildlife encounters.

MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR TIME
Things to do and discover.
01
River-country game drives
Explore river corridors and open country with time to watch how animals use the landscape. Elephants, predators and birds bring different interests to a drive. Return to an area at another time of day rather than treating each sighting as a quick stop on a long checklist.
02
Baobabs & woodland wildlife
Ruaha’s baobabs, rocky ridges and miombo woodland reward travellers who enjoy the setting as much as large mammals. Look for changes in vegetation and the wildlife they support. Photographers can discuss a slower pace and time for the light to develop.
03
Walking & birding
An authorised guided walk can reveal tracks, plants and smaller wildlife. Birdwatching adds another layer along the river and woodland edges. Our team coordinates suitable activities with your camp and confirms what is included in your itinerary.

A JOURNEY SHAPED BY THE SEASON
When to visit.
June–October
Dry-season river focus
As water becomes more limited, river areas can become an important wildlife focus. We recommend camps suited to your route and dates.
November–February
Greener country
The landscape changes with rain, and birdlife can be rewarding. We check seasonal camp operations when planning your stay.
March–May
Access needs more planning
Wetter conditions can affect remote roads and accommodation schedules. We check availability and recommend suitable road or flight connections.
These seasonal patterns are a starting point. Weather, wildlife movements and activity availability vary; we will plan around your dates.
CONNECT YOUR JOURNEY
Getting there.
Ruaha is a southern-circuit destination, commonly approached through Iringa by road or via an arranged flight to a suitable park airstrip. Combining it with northern parks requires substantial extra travel. For a Ruaha–Nyerere pairing, compare the actual flight or road connections before deciding how many nights you can spend in each place.
A PLACE TO SLOW DOWN
Stays selected for you.
Tell us where you would like to go, your dates, budget and preferred comfort level. Our Tanzania-based safari specialists will recommend well-located accommodation, check availability and arrange your stays around the journey. Your personal proposal will include the selected properties, rooms and meal plans.
THE DETAILS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Plan your visit, your way.
Wildlife worth waiting for
Lions, elephants, buffalo and a rich variety of birds are among the reasons to visit. Leopards and wild dogs also occur here, but any encounter depends on conditions and chance. Tell your guide what interests you and leave room for unexpected sightings rather than working through a checklist.
Build a practical southern route
Combine Ruaha with Nyerere for a change from riverine scenery to a different inland landscape, or consider Mikumi within a longer overland journey. These places are not neighbouring quick stops. Compare flight options and realistic road days before choosing how many parks to include.
BEFORE YOU BOOK
Your questions, answered.
Is Ruaha on the classic northern circuit?
No. It is a southern Tanzania destination. Adding it to a northern safari requires a separate transfer plan and enough extra time.
Are walking safaris included?
Only when specifically arranged and confirmed in your programme. Ask about the guide, location, suitability and additional cost.
